Hi @Jamie Kenyon and @Astrid Bowlby and all other members. My name is Nina, I am full-time gardener in Manchester. I had a career change 4 years ago, I gardened self-taught for 18 years and since the decision to switch careers have achieved RHS level 2/3 qualifications and have just been accepted onto a Horticulture Supervisor apprenticeship alongside work.
I manage the propagation area at work, amongst other things, and have experience with fruit tree grafting and chip budding.
I have a gardening blog and am currently working towards becoming a garden writer. If you get a chance please have a look at my blog, constructive criticism welcome. Nice to meet you all.
As it's snowing again in NY and it seems there might be a need to break the ice, here goes.
I'm Jamie (he/him)
I'm based in Brooklyn, NY but originally from the UK, I left Glasgow nearly 10 years ago now, which doesn't make me such a "young" propagator, and not actually having any formal hort training, (just a recent but growing interest in gardening and plants), perhaps also doesn't make me a "propagator".
So by way of introduction I might be here under confused pretenses, but all the same, interested and curious to hear more about everyone else who's joined as a member and been following the zine over the last year.
My partner and I have a small back garden and Sarah does actually have training and knowledge and works in a nursery here.
At the moment we have about 12inches of snow and it'll likely be winter here until mid March at best, so in the meantime I'm waiting on the arrival of an order of too much seed from Special Plants in UK, and keeping some less than hardy cuttings alive in our basement "potting shed", and over thinking dreams about next summer's plan(t)s.
Hopefully this helps break the ice and let's everyone else share more about themselves here....
